Vandana Shourie at Indian Art Circle

In the early Seventies, while pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, A lecture Series on Vastu Shastra left an indelible impression on Vandana Shourie, and became a passion to be pursued in her journey as an artist and as a life science.

This Science of a Living Tradition, that permeates into a conscience as a home, or work, or worship is of prime importance at the Temple of the Lord....Sacred and Spiritual. Sacred architectural and art forms have the ability to uplift human consciousness from mundane reality to transcendence.

In Ancient Indian art and architecture, the Square (Earth) is literally the fundamental form. It is considered essential and perfect and presupposes the Circle that results from it.  

Expanding energy shapes the circle from the center and is established in the shape of the square.

The Circle and Curve belong to Life in its growth and movement.

The Square is the mask of order and discipline, the Line being the shortest distance between two points—the journey of each individual towards the Infinite.

This Vedantic Philosophy and basic Indian architectural discipline is what she imparts to her students as a visiting professor in Architectural Colleges. Many a metaphysical idea born with life’s experience and inner vision has taken shape on her canvases, which find home in collections in India and abroad.

She lives and works in Delhi and USA.
