Senior fellowship report
by
Vasundhara Tewari.
(from 1.2.1998 to 1.8.1998)
During this period I experimented with creating two layers in my paintings. This meant doing two painting that over lapped each other to become one work. I created works on paper- The medium I have been exploring for several years now and combined it with painting on acrylic - a medium
I started exploring after I received the senior fellowship.
Through clear unpainted areas of transparent acrylic the painted paper could be viewed whereas in other parts of the painting the acrylic was painting so that there was no transparency.  This was a box relief and though layering and depth help me create disparate realities giving of a physi-cal dimension to the 'Inner and Outer'. I also introduced fabric and photographs in to my work so that there would be a juxtaposition of different materials and the rendered could be seen along with the real. I introduced the autobio-graphical in to my work feeling I could make a more authen-tic statement if I delved into the intimate world my own life and experience to create images of the 'contemporary women- her life and concerns. I also experimented with photography working in the darkroom- with multiple negative being exposed at the same time- to create images of women relating to mountain and earth- the strength and rawness of nature.

This fellowship has given me the opportunity to not only work with traditional women artists but also study arts and crafts practice by women of states such as North Eastern Region and Bihar and I have attempted to absorb the Panorama of traditional Indian Art into my contemporary work.

Attached painting in layers of acrylic on paper plus acrylic and acrylic.
