During
this period I started introducing elements of women's craft
into my work I started painting lace which has long been
associated with women and femininity. In my work the lace formed
a frame within which the figure of the woman dominated. I was inspired
by the images of the Godess Shakti. The fine and the strong
- the outer and inner came together. The work was very
painstaking and intricate- relating to the composition
of miniature painting but using elements from my own
work and blown up in scale- the paintings
being large- 4' x 6' . The inclusion of lace in the backgrounds
also harked back to the intricate "jali-work" of havelis of Rajsthan and
Gujrat.
