As also contributed articles and book reviews for "People" a magazine founded by the freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. 1949-1950 On the editorial staff of Thought ,a weekly magazine of the politics and the arts from Delhi. 1962-1975 Literary Editor of Thoughts, also   1973-1975 Poetry Editor of Youth Times[ a Times of India Publications] 1972-1975  Honorary Editor  of Indian Literature from  1975-1984 Editor ,Indian Literature,a literary journal published bimonthly by the Sahitya Akademi , the National Academy of Letters. 1981-1984 Honorary Co-editor, Art and Poetry 1984-1985 Honorary Editor ,Lalit Kala Contemporary, an arts journal of the Lalit Kala Akademi, the National Academy of the Arts 1960-1972 Was the Art Critic for The Hindustan Times Delhi, a leading national daily. 1973-1974 Curated a major exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art for The Indian Council for Cultural Relations sent to Bulgaria, Poland, Belgium and Yugoslavia. The theme of the exhibition was The Human Condition. It was for the first time that a  large exhibition comprising several works by different Indian artists was formulated within a conceptual framework. July1950 One of the signatories to the inception of the Congress for Cultural Freedom in Berlin. 1967 Participated in the Seminar on Book Reviews in India organized by the National Book Trust at Delhi. 1970 Seminar on Indian and Australian Literature organized by the Indian Council  for Cultural Relations. 1972 Participated in the National Writers Camp on Indianness of Indian Literature at the Worlds Book  Fair Delhi in March. 1976 Seminar on Alternative Futures :the Framework of Values organized at the Institute of Advanced Study ,Simla in June. 1982 Convenor of Seminar on Interdependance and Autonomy of the Arts in a Changing World on the occasion of the 5th Indian Triennale organized by the Lalit Kala Akademi. 1983 October Meeting of Writers at Belgrade-an international meet 1989---International Conference on Art Teaching and its History at Sao Paulo, Brazil in August. 1990 Participated in an interdisciplinary International Seminar on Time (Kaala)  organized by the Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts in November at Delhi. 1991 National Seminar on Creative Aspects of Indian English organized by the Sahitya Akademi at Pune. 1995 Attended the UNESCO sponsored workshop on  Integration of Endogenous Cultural Dimension into Development[IGNCA at Delhi in April]. 1996 Asian Conference on the Culture of Peace: the Experiences and the Experiments organized by the IGNCA Delhi. Select list of lectures 1971 Lectures on Contemporary Indian Art in  Czechoslovakia and USSR. 1973-1974 Lectures on Contemporary Indian Art in Europe. 1978 Lectures on Cotemporary Indian Art in Greece. 1981 Bhadra Singh Memorial Lecture at Imphal, Manipur. 1983 Tagore Memorial Lecture, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. 1997 Lecture on Contemporary Indian Art at Rajasthan State Lalit Kala Academy Jaipur. 1999 Lecture on Contemporary Indian Art  at RSLKA,Jaipur. 1999 Madanlal Nagar Memorial Lecture of Rashtriya  Lalit Kala Kendra of Lucknow at Vadodara in January. 1999 The First Ranbir Singh Bisht Memorial Lecture at Rashtriya  Kala Kendra, Lucknow in September. 2000 Lecture on Art in Present Day Scenario for Celebrating the Millineum Woman, an  event organized by the Lady Irwin College ,Delhi in February. 2000 Lecture on Art and Civilization at Government College of Art, Chandigarh on its Golden Jubilee Celebrations in August. 2001 Talk on the Arts  and the Human Personality at Kala Vatayan Delhi in January. 2001 Convocation Address at Government College of Art, Chandigarh in April.    AWARDS 1991 Padmashri of the Government of India for literature in English 1998 National Service Award of Avantika ,an arts organization of Delhi 2001 Kala Ratna -the top award of the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society, Delhi OTHER ACTIVITIES  a) Have been on the jury for several awards for art and poetry including the national exhibitions of the  Lalit Kala Akademi ,All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society, Art Academies of several states and other organizations. b) Published  several articles on art, literature and culture in dailies, art, cultural and literary journals. c) Have written hundreds of catalogues for artists. d) Have been constantly interacting with  artists , specially the younger ones and commenting on their work in person and in the media. e) Co-Founder and the first Former President of The Poetry Society of India and editor of the TPS journal. f) Current President of The Poetry Club of India. g) Given several poetry readings all over India ,Europe and USA.
