Delhi; National Award 1963 ; Solo shows since 1965 in Delhi and Bombay; Shows abroad at Zurich, Germany, Copenhagen, Oslo etc ; Participation in Tokyo Biennale 1965, Sao Paulo Biennale 1967, Art now in India (London); Menton Biennale 1976 among other important exhibitions; Group I 890 exhibition in Delhi 1963 ; Works represented in National Gallery of Modern Art, N. ANJOLIE ELA MENON

Born 1940, Burnpur, West Bengal ; Unfinished studies J. J. School of Art, Bombay ; B.A. (Literature) Delhi University Atelier Fresque Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Art (Paris) 1959-61 on a French Govt. Scholarship ; study tour of France, U.K. & U.S.A. 1980-81; Exhibition since 1959 and had shows in Delhi, Bombay, New York, Hong Kong etc., Retrospective 1988 of works done during 1950-1988 ; Exhibited in Paris Biennale (1988); in Sao Panlo Biennale and other important exhibitions; In the collection of NGMA, New Delhi and other important Collections in India and abroad.


 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 


 
BANSI PARIMOO (Late)

Born at Srinagar Kashmir; selftaught painter and sculptor; worked freelance decorator in many cities in India, convenor Kashmir Art Society. Secretary Kashmir Artists Association, ex-member general council J & K Academy of Art and Culture, J & K Board of Ecology and Environment. was deeply involved in photography, farming and journalism. Exhibitions with Progressive Artist's Association (1952), J & K artist's group (1956), Kashmir art society (1957) national exhibition of art since 1962. BIKASH BHATTACHARJEE

Born 1940 in Calcutta; Trained in Painting at the College of Arts and Draftsmanship, Calcutta(1963) and later taught in the same College ; many one man shows since 1965 ; member of Society of Contemporary Artists, Calcutta ; Represented in Triennale India; Paris Biennale (1969); Lalit Kala National Exhibition awards (1971, 72), Academy of Fine Arts 1962 among other awards ; works in the collection of NGMA, Chandigarh University Museum, Lalit Kala Akademi; many Portrait Commissions. Born 1926; studied at the Govt College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta; painter, National Exhibition of Art (Akademi Award, 1958); All India Pine Arts and Crafts Society, New Delhi (Prize) ; Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta; 20 Artists Exhibition, New Delhi (1959) and several other major art exhibitions in India; Salon de Mai, paris (1951), Sao Paulo Biennale 1961, Tokyo Biennale (1961, 1962); Venice Biennale (1962); 'Ten Indian painters' (U.S.A., 1964) and Various important art exhibitions held abroad. Fulbright Scholar to the U.S.A. (1959-60); has painted numerous portraits of distinguished persons.


 
 
 
 
 
 
 


 
G. R. SANTOSH (1929 - 1997)

Born 1929 (Srinagar) ; painting, weaving, papier-mache, 1947-53 ; accepted poet in the Kashmiri language ; Government of India Scholar, 1954-56. Exhibitions: several solo exhibitions in India and abroad including those at New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Bombay and New Delhi participated in numerous group exhibitions which include National Exhibitions of Art (winning awards thrice), Sao Paulo Biennale, 1969-71, Indian Art Exhibition to Eastern Europe, 1956, First Triennale-India, I 968, Contemporary Indian Painting, Washington, 1973; represented in several private and public collections in India and abroad. JAGDISH SWAMINATHAN (1928 - 1994)

Born at Sanjauli, Simla; Studied Painting in Delhi Polytechnic 1956, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw 1958 ; Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship 1968-70 ; Founder Director, Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal 1981-90 ; Founder member 'Group- 1890' 1963 ; 1st Triennale India 1968 ; 1st and 2nd Bharath Bhawan Biennale Bhopal 1986, 1988; several shows in Bombay, Delhi and other important exhibitions ; works represented in many museums and Private Collections. Born in Bombay ; studied in Madras College of Art 1939-45 under D. P. Roy Chowdhury; studied textile design in Madras (1946) and Diploma in Photography from British Institute of Photography, London (1947); Teaching 1947 to 1954 ; Exhibition officer, Lalit Kala Akadami 1954-69 ; several Solo exhibitions ; many important Group shows including 33rd Venice Biennale 1966, IX Sao Paulo Biennale 1967, Triennale India 1971 and 1978 ; His works have been shown in Madras, Banglore, New Delhi, Bombay, U.S.A., Papua, New Guinea; has been President of the Cholamandal Artists Village ; works represented in N.G.M.A., New Delhi, Lalit Kala Akademi and Museums in Berlin, Australia, Holland, U.S.A. etc.

Born in Siddipet in 1925 ; Diploma in Drawing from College of Art, Madras and Hyderabad ; exhibitions in India and abroad, including the National Exhibition of Art, 4th and 6th Triennale, India ; Represented in the 25 years of Indian Art in 1964 ; Exhibited in Australia, Bulgaria, U.S.A., U.S.S.R. and Mexico ; Won several awards from the Hyderabad Art Society, A.I.F.A.C.S.; National Exhibition Award 1990, Collection : National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Parliament House; New Delhi, Sri Chitralayam Museum, Kerala, Salariung Museum, Hyderabad and many other Museums and Private

KRISHEN KHANNA

Born 1925 Lyallpur (now in Pakistan) ; B.A. (Hons.) ; Lives and works in Delhi ; Held more than 30 one man shows and participated in major National and International exhibitions; Exhibiting since 1949 ; Tokyo Biennale 1957 and 1959 and 1961; Progressive Artist's Group exhibitions 1949-51; Venice Biennale 1962 ; Triennale India ; National Award 1965 ; works represented in many institutional collections and individuals in India and abroad; Left a successful Banking carrier to become a whole time Painter in the late forties ; member Progressive Artists Group ; Padma Shri 1990.

Born 1926, in Goa, Studied at Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay from 1943 to 47 in Painting ; became an Asst.. Professor in the same Institute ; Went to France in 1951 for study ; Held first one-man show in Bombay, 1950 and so far has had 90 shows in many important cities of the world; Won National Awards, in 1961 & 1963 & 1972; exhibited in the Sao Paulo Biennale, 1963 and Tokyo Biennale, 1963 ; Derived inspiration and did paintings based on Geeta Govinda, Ritusambara; Coloured Etchings on life of Buddha; Awarded Padma Shri by Govt. of India 1987 ; Principal Govt. M. REDDBPPA NAIDU

Born 1932 at Kapulapalem, Fast Godavari District (A.P.) ; formal education in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh ; 1st Class Diploma in Fine Arts from the Government School of Arts and Crafts, Madras, 1960; Awarded Government of India Cultural scholarship in Painting from March 1960 December 1962 ; National Award 1962 ; many other Awards; Some participation's are The 4th Paris Biennale 1965, Paris, Indian Contemporary Art Exhibition London and other Capital cities of Europe; 10th and 11th Biennale of Sao Paulo, Brazil 1969 and 1971; several solo shows ; represented in the collection of Lalit Kala Akademi ; Teaches in Govt. MANOHAR KAUL

Born in 1925 Srinagar, Kashmir ; Has done his Masters degree ; Training in Art at Sir A S. Fine Arts and Art History at Columbia University and the Art Students League, New York, U.S.A. 1964-66 ; Painter and Educationist ; Designed four exhibitions on Nehru, Gandhi, Nonviolence and Shri Aurobindo from 1968 to 1971 at Nehru Memorial ; Museum, Teen Murti House, New Delhi;

P. T. REDDY (1915 - 1996)

Studied at the J. J. School of Art, Bombay and after graduation, became a Fellow of the school, but resigned in 1942 during quit India movement; Won Dolly Cursetji award for murals ; Fellowship Govt. of India; 'Asthana chitrakar' of A. P. Govt. and member of General Board of ICCR; he received the Honorary Citizenship of Kentucky U.S.A., He was a prolifie painter and sculptor; His works have been exhibited in U.K., U.S.A., USSR, Sweden, Switzerland and Greece; Represented in the collection of Royal Palace, London, N.G.M.A., New Delhi, and many other institutions.
 


 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 


 
RAM KUMAR

Born in Simla 1924 ; M. A. Economics from Delhi University; 1950-51 went to Paris to study at Academi Andre Lhote and Atelier Fernand Leger; J. D. Rockfeller III Fund Fellowship 1970-71; Govt. of India conferred 'Padma Shree' on him  in 1972 ; Kalidas Samman l956 ; National Award in 1956 and 1958 ; Honourable Mention in Sas Paulo Biennale 1959 ; Participation in Tokyo Biennale 1961-65 ; Widely exhibited in India and abroad ; In the collection of N.
